In fact, this is one of the most common mistakes, even though we only have to look around on the bus or in a restaurant. Everyone is using their mobile - its the number one screen today. Having a site designed for this behavior is critical. It's never fun to zoom and drag the page around on your phone to see what it says. Visitors to such sites tend to think that the company does not care about their visitorsand are clearly not in the forefront of their field.
How is your website performing on a mobile?
Google prioritizes user-friendly websites
Another business critical factor is Google. Which on Thursday, 26 February 2015 came out with the following information:
Starting April 21 2015, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.” – Takaki Makino, Chaesang Jung, and Doantam Phan.
Technical and user perspective to consider
So it is priority to have both the end user of your website and Google's perspective in mind, if you are aiming for a top notch Google ranking.
Your Website Should be Like a Rubber Band
Choose a responsive design. A responsive website automatically adjusts to the screen size that the visitor has in front of him (or she), like a rubber band. Design and layout is automatically adjusted to the visitor's unit, whether it's an e-reader, phone or computer. Even Google themselves say that responsive design is preferred today.
Checklist for a mobile friendly website:
- Don't look at websites you like from your desktop computer (its 2016).
- Draw your phone like you mean it and do the exercise properly (yes in 2016, time flies I know).
